Applying to medical school and starting to volunteer?

I’m currently a junior in college. I will be taking the MCAT this spring and applying to medical school this summer. I start volunteering at a hospital tomorrow. This will be the first time I’ve gotten medical volunteer hours. I have been on four different short-term mission trips, but none of them were medical oriented. Two of the trips were to an orphanage in Mexico and the other two were working with children in El Salvador. I also went on a Habitat for Humanity mission trip over spring break through my university. My question is, did I wait too long to begin getting medical volunteer hours? And how many volunteer hours does the average applicant have?

Some students don’t have any volunteer hours, and they make up for it in other ways (research, leadership experience, etc). As long as you have a good idea of what it means to be a doctor, volunteer hours don’t actually prepare you for anything in Med School or Residency, anyway.

Med Schools don’t track volunteer hours of applicants, or publish that information.

What to wear on my youth group missions trip?

so were going to kentucky to help people who are poor, were gonna fix up their house or something like that. its a really good cause. and i know i dont have to wear nice clothes but im supposed to wear gross clothes that i never wear. im going to do that but how can i make them look good? and were going in the summer.

just your presence will be worth a million to those people

so – jeans – NEVER out of style -

good pair of shoes – like last years sports shoe that you won’t
mind getting stuff spilled on

any old sacrificial tee shirts – that you won’t mind throwing out
before you pack to come home

but also take 1 or 2 nice sets of clothes – for when
you may go to special places – -

all the best – have a BLAST!

What should i do!!! My life is crazie. =(?

OK wow.. so i go to a privet christian school im 16. and over spring break on a mission trip, I fell in love with a guy who is 21, my school found out about it and they wont let me see talk or even e-mail him, untill i graduate, we didnt even do anything exept hold hands!!. he even had to quit his job. he told me it didn’t matter and that he loved me way more then his job but i know he liked his job alot.. and if i talk to him and the school finds out i will have to get kicked out. its going to be so hard to not see him or here from him for two years, and in that time i know we are going to grow and change apart from each other. what should i do? ive already been calling him even though i shouldnt. i love him. s hould i change schools?

You’re dating a now-unemployed loser who can’t find a girl his own age. Stay away from him for your own good.

where can i find free christian mission trips?

i really want to go to forgien countries to help out and spread the word of God however i am only 16 and do not have a lot of money to put towards the trip. Do you know of a mission organization that is cheap (or free) and will allow 16 year olds to participate?

Foreign travel is expensive, but your local church may be able to help. You could also do fundraisers.
It’s difficult to go free/lowcost anywhere, that’s just how it is. But in the meantime you can help in your own city, like food banks, habitat for humanity, etc. and trust God to provide in the other opportunities.

what do people do on church mission trips?

i have to write a paper for my spanish class, and i have to make up a story about what i did during a church mission trip to costa rica. ive never actually been on a mission trip, so i dont know what i should be writing about. i was wondering if anyone can tell me the typical stuff that takes place during these kinds of trips

If I were you, I would look up organizations that provide mission trips to Costa Rica and find what they say it involves.

Missionaries clean up, build/rebuild, deliver goods (food, clothing, etc.), teach (hygiene, how to clean water, how to grow food, etc.). There are some medical missions trips where immunizations are administered, injuries and illnesses are tended to, surgeries are performed, etc.

The missionarires are not always "at work", though. They do some tourist-y stuff as well, so perhaps look in a travel book to find something like that to base your story around. They interact with the people a lot, hearing their stories. They eat the food, learn about the culture, etc.

Wanting to go to South America to do mission work, mom does not want me too?

So I’m really wanting to go on a mission trip to south America with my youth group at church this summer but my mom is not happy about it at all. I’ll be 18 so ya know technically I’ll be able to go regardless of what she thinks and I’m intending on going either way but I would like for her to be okay with it. I’m really into mission work and I’ve done a lot here inside the U.S. but I’m really ready to get out into other places and impact peoples lives.

I need name ideas for a youth missions club!?

This club is for teens and tweens but I need a name that really appeals to teens especially. We’re a Christian club that does service projects, goes on missions trips and works on outreach projects as well. So far we have ideas like Here to Serve, Mission Possible, Youth in Action, Missions In Action, etc. Do you like any of these the best? Do you have any other ideas??

I would not use Youth In Action- I am certain there is an organization with that name already, and it could pose some trouble for you if you use it. I LOVE Here to Serve.

I would ask the children involved in the group for their suggestions, and allow them all to be voted upon and go with what the vote determines. Since it is for them, let them have a say. A lot of youth are really creative, too, so I am sure they could come up with some wonderful ideas.

I want to go on a mission trip but I am not christian?

I am 13(turning 14 this sunday) and I want to actually help countries in need, not just donate some money. The issue is, is that I don’t believe in god so is there an alternative program, club, or something, or would they allow an atheist? Also I am looking to go on holidays, spring break and winter break.

How to raise money for mission trips?

I need to raise money to go on a mission trip. The cost will be about $5,000. What should I do? Thanks

Start a facebook page and title it something like "Support our Mission" and send it to your friends and their parents….you could put a posting on craigslist and write something like "any monetary contributions would be appreciated"

contact any local Christian (? assuming its a Christian Mission) organizations and/or churches and ask them if they could donate money, remind people that its tax deductible…that may help

Is Israel safe for those going on short term mission trips?

I have been reading of active and violent reactions to missionaries and Messianic Jews in Israel. I know that fear should not enter into this decision (I do believe in divine protection!), but my friend now wants to go on a tour of the Holy Land instead. Can anyone help me comfort her fears so that we can do something positive for HIM while we walk in His footsteps over there?

Yes, there is a problem with tolerance by Orthodox Jews to Christian Missionaries. Another answer supplied a link, I will supply more. If I could offer advice it would be to visit the Holy Land and appreciate all it has to offer, but leave the Bible tracts at home. Please view these:
