Where to go on a mission trip?

So my youth pastor just talked to me about going on a missions trip somewhere out of the country, preferably the Dominican Repubilc, and he said if we plan it, we can go, and of course if it’s cheap enough. Now where are good & cheap places to go on a missions trip? We will get a good amount of translators from our church, spanish translators, so yeah any ideas for fundraising also, anything help would be WONDERFUL.

I’m so proud of your decision to serve a mission for your church. I know God will be with you and he is who you should pray and ask where he wants you to serve, not us. This is your journey, not ours.
But to add to your thoughts of what you need for the mission, check on line with several countries websites and then they have drop down lists of what your looking for. If you can find a website where you can find people who have lived in various places, they may help you by sending emails on the economy of that country, what their needs are, ETC.
For fund raisers there are a lot of options. Have the young men offer to do yard work for older people and quote it for doing the whole job, not by the hour. Some homes need to be painted on the outside and if you go to Home Depot or Lowes and go to their paint department, often times they have rejects… meaning after the color was mixed the client didn’t like it and so it gets reduced way down so it will sell and use that for the inside and the outside. If you live in an area where there are a good number of outside pets, put out a flier that you are going to sponsor a "pet wash" for $5 per pet.
One last thought, it will sound a little off the wall but none the less I want you to do it. Check around and find out families in your area that are Mormon to help you with the service projects to raise money. They always have great ideas and will not expect any monetary compensation. Remember Matt 25:40? (paraphrasing) In as much as ye have done this unto the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me. More people that help you will be more blessings given by our Eternal Father in heaven.

I told my gullible Christian friends to go on a mission trip to North Korea, am I going to Hell for this?

They just left on their private plane, I was laughing as they flew off but now I’m kinda worried.

North Korea is Best Korea. Justin Bieber tours Best Korean because he know it is the BEST Korea. Send your friends to best korea.

Anyone have info on free or low cost short term mission trips?

I am curious about details of short term, free or low cost mission trips and I was wondering if anyone had info or experience with going on a short term mission trip to anywhere that needed help. I am trying to find a short term mission trip that I can afford to go on. Anyone have any feedback for me? Thanks!

For answers to all overseas mission questions, I suggest that you check out this website…it is awesome. http://www.coyotecommunications.com/volunteer/international.html

what percent of people come back from mission trips to nicaragua?

I have two friends having an argument on who is more likely to come back because one is joining the military the other is going on a mission trip to nicaragua

Depends.

Some people go to Nicaragua on mission trips, realize that the life they live is the dream of others, and continue to give back to the community over a long-term basis. Some people (specifically retirees who have either visited or have done mission trips), go back and actually purchase property to live there and don’t go back to where they’re from. People realize the cost of living is substantially less and it isn’t a bad place to live.

It’s all a matter of personal choice and preference. But to give you the benefit of the doubt, your friend from the army is less likely to go back home than your friend going on a mission trip to Nicaragua (given the statistical and rational differences of their destinations).

However, this is something you can’t really put a percentage on. Doing so can bring up random statistical error. Not everyone is the same nor is their fate.

Best of luck to both your friends.

Short-term Christian mission trips for 2011?

I want to do something next summer (or during the school year, doesn’t matter) and get involved in international outreach mission work. Next summer I’ll be a junior in highschool, so I don’t know what’s available to me or how to find a organization. I know I can get better information from my church and everything, but right now I’m just sifting my options and figuring out how to find a group or organization to go with, where it’s going, and what I’ll be expected to do… be it relational, physical or aiding. I’m in southern Oklahoma/texoma area, if that helps.

Find one that actually goes to help people, not just as a religious selling tool.

I homeschool so I am not connected with any school.
Price is no deterrent… neither is whatever labor is involved. God will send me where he wants me, regardless of the details.

you really will find the best information at your church. I’m going on my church’s high school mission trip this summer. keep in mind that they are expensive though. I’m going to one in-state and it’s over $300. you will be expected to build houses, feed people, etc. sometimes groups may do stuff like put on a VBS for the kids. good luck!!

*edit* Joel Osteen’s church is called Lakewood Church, but it’s in Houston. Lakewood, Texas is near Dallas

Christian Sponsors for my Mission Trip?

I need to raise a few thousand dollars for my India mission trip. any good sponsors that you can think of? thanks for all your help
Yes i do believe Christ died for our sins. I believe Christ is the only way to salvation. I belong to a Bible church and serve with the kids. the India Mission trip i am going to be apart of is helping with the Asian Christian Academy doing VBS and Backyard Bible Clubs.

If your trip is for a genuine and charitable purpose, several Christian Missionaries are there to come forward to sponsor your trip. A search with raising your intention amongst the society will be helpful to you.

Since Evangelicals go to Africa a lot on mission trips, can they tell Africans not to persecute gay people?

I mean, they got the "Gospel of Jesus Christ" part down pretty good.
And nobody’s asking them to tell Africans to legalize gay marriage or think homosexuality is morally okay.

But killing gay people for being gay?
Prison sentences and forced labor for gay sex?
Refusing gay people burial?

Do you think Christians here in America could go over there and teach those people some tolerance, too?

Don’t Evangelicals think homosexuality is wrong? They’d just avoid talking about it in Africa or anywhere else and put it down once someone starts a conversation about it.

If I could, I’d start a worldwide campaign shamelessly advertising homosexuality. I think the hate over it is overrated and stupid, and see nothing wrong with same-sex marriage/hookups/whatever.

I’m Christian: If I go on a mission trip to a Muslim country with Sharia law, will I be killed?

No don’t worry about getting killed
.
It’s the disappearing thing that keeps happening
.
That you got to worry about
